Clinical Nutrition
What is Clinical Nutrition?
Clinical nutrition (also known as nutritional medicine) aims to improve individual health outcomes and support the management of complex health conditions through dietary modification, improved nutritional status and lifestyle changes.
A clinical nutritionist works with people who want nutritional support to maintain their health. Clients may seek the help of a clinical nutritionist to manage symptoms of chronic and complex health conditions, acute health issues (such as cold and flu), or to improve their general health and wellbeing.
The aim of a clinical nutritionist is to assess and improve nutrition to help maintain and/or remediate metabolic dysfunction that may drive common health issues and chronic disease.
Clinical nutritionists often collaborate with other health professionals, such as your GP, to offer integrative support. Your GP can provide a referral to see a clinical nutritionist, however a referral is not required to make an appointment.
A Certified Practicing Nutritionist (CPN) is a degree qualified and clinically trained nutritionist registered with the Australasian Association and Register of Practicing Nutritionists (AARPN).
Private health fund rebates may be available for nutrition consultations. This will vary depending on your provider and whether your policy accepts Telehealth sessions.
Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.

Work With Johanna
Using a holistic systems approach, I aim to target the underlying causes of symptoms. My philosophy is rooted in providing simple and practical progress to establish sustainable health outcomes, using a food-first approach whenever possible.
We will discuss your lifestyle needs and factors that may affect your wellbeing. These may include your sleep, stress, hobbies, family and/or work commitments, and other environmental factors.
In addition, I will take a thorough case history and conduct clinically-relevant examinations (e.g., physical observation for signs of nutrient deficiency) to assess your nutritional status and the functioning of body systems and metabolic pathways.
Pathology and functional testing may also be used to form a deeper understanding of your health.
Your Nutrition Plan
After discussing your health goals, we will collaborate to develop your personalised nutrition plan to meet your unique needs to optimise your health.
Your nutrition plan can be adjusted as you advance through your health journey and will serve as a helpful guide between appointments.
Depending on your health needs, you may require follow-up appointments more frequently in the beginning. I typically see clients at least 2-3 times within the first 3 months, depending on the nature of their health concerns.
