If you’re looking for something fruity and sweet as your next dessert, give these delicious cinnamon baked apples a try. Their warm aroma and flavour is just what you need on a cold night and they pair beautifully with plain yoghurt or vanilla ice cream.
Cinnamon Baked Apples
Ingredients
- 4 red apples fuji, royal gala or pink lady (preferably organic)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- 2 tsp additional toppings (e.g. sunflower seeds, chopped pecans, sultanas)
- 1 tsp coconut flakes
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 10 g unsalted butter
- 1 cup freshly boiled water
- plain yoghurt or vanilla ice cream to serve
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 190°C (fan forced).
- Wash and core apples about 3/4 of the way down the centre, leaving a base to contain the filling. Place them into an oven safe dish.
- Mix the dry ingredients and spoon this mixture into the centre of each apple, filling all the way to the top.
- Cut a small cube of butter for each apple and place this on top of the filling.
- Pour the boiled water around the base of the apples.
- Bake at 190°C for approximately 30-40 minutes, checking regularly. For smaller apples, you may want to check at the 20 minute mark to see if they are ready. Apples will be ready when they appear soft but not mushy.
- When ready, remove the apples with tongs and place them into serving bowls. Wear oven mitts to carefully pour the remaining liquid over the apples.
- Serve with yoghurt or ice cream and enjoy!
Notes
This recipe can be altered according to the size of your apples. The amount of filling and time required for baking can be adjusted depending on if your apples are small or large.
For best results, I recommend keeping a close eye on your apples to determine when they are ready to come out of the oven.
